For Circ-ILL integration, an item won't check in ("Unknown Barcode" error appears) and it won't check out to the patron who requested it (the system tries to create a temporary item)
Symptom
- In the Circulation module, the item:
- won't check in ("Unknown Barcode" error appears),
- won't check out to the patron who requested it (the system tries to create a blank temporary item).
- When looking at the ILL request's Request History > Circulation History, you see the error:
Temporary item record failed to create (exception) unrecognised user: //UserId/UserIdentifierValue or //AuthenticationInput/AuthenticationInputData[12345]- The 12345 in brackets will be replaced with the patron ID field on the request

Resolution
This error is coming from the patron ID field on the request. The system can't recognize it because it isn't an active patron barcode. Make sure that the ID on the request matches the patron's barcode.
Check the patron ID field for any extra spaces (ie. "_123456789"). If you find one, delete it and resave the request.
Then, in the request > Request History tab > Circulation accordion > Circulation History, you should see a hyperlinked "Retry" button. Click on this to attempt to create the temporary item again.
If the temporary item still isn't generated or keeps throwing an error, contact OCLC Support with the request ID number.
