How many characters are allowed in the ILLiad Outgoing Email Notifications Subject field?

Symptom

• You want to know the number of characters that are allowed in outgoing email notifications and what happens if you go over that amount.  You have as part of your outgoing notification that the full title show up in the Subject Line.

Resolution

The subject field is set up for 255 characters.  If the subject goes over 255 characters, the email will fail.  So it is best to not put the title in the Subject field because of these two reasons:

1. Your email might fail.
2. You always have the title in the Body of the email, so the patron can see the information in the email.
