Resolution
This error comes up when there is a problem authenticating to log into WorldShare. It generally means that the URL being used to log in is corrupt in some way. Some things that may help you resolve this include the following:
- Refresh the page: Sometimes, a temporary glitch can cause this error. Refreshing the page might resolve the issue.
- Verify that this is the only instance of WorldShare/Discovery open in the browser: Close the browser completely, then reopen only one tab to test.
- Do not use a bookmark: If you are using a bookmark, it may be corrupted and need to be replaced. When this happens, type or copy and paste the URL directly into the navigation bar:
- WorldShare: https://[REGISTRY-ID].share.worldcat.org/wms
- WorldCat Discovery: https://[REGISTRY-ID].on.worldcat.org/discovery
- If you don't know your library's registry ID, you can look it up on the WorldCat Registry website.
- Clear cache and cookies: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can help eliminate any stored data that might be causing conflicts. Be sure to delete all data for all time. After clearing the cache, try accessing the page again.
- Try a different browser: If the issue persists, try accessing the page using a different web browser to see if the problem is specific to the browser you were using.
- Make sure you do not have OCLC Service Configuration open in the same browser.
- Confirm that you are using the correct username and that a password is set up.
This can also indicate that there is a problem going on with your authentication setup. If the suggestions above don't work, contact OCLC Support with your library's OCLC symbol, the error message, the URL you are trying to log with, and whether multiple users/machines are being affected.
