How to resolve a DUPLICATE_BARCODE_ERROR in patron load report

Symptom

  • You have a DUPLICATE_BARCODE_ERROR in your patron load report.

Applies to

  • WorldShare Management Services (WMS)
  • WorldShare Admin

Resolution

This error means that you are trying to add a barcode to a user's account, but the barcode already exists on a different user's account. You can find out which user's account the barcode appears on by going to WorldShare > Admin and performing a search limited to Barcode. If that user has the incorrect barcode, you can change it to the correct one. That will free up the previous barcode for use by another account.

If the barcode is deprecated, see: I am unfamiliar with a barcode being 'deprecated', what does that mean?

If you've entered the wrong barcode in your patron load file by mistake, correct the barcode and reupload the file.

If you're sure the barcode you entered is correct, check to see if the idAtSource value you entered in the patron file is also correct. The patron load process first matches a WMS account to the sourceSystem/idAtSource pair in the patron load file before moving on to the barcode. If the idAtSource is correct, it's possible that the idAtSource appears on another user's account. You can find out which user's account the idAtSource appears on by going to WorldShare > Admin and performing a search limited to User ID at Source. Open the resulting user's account and expand the Account Info accordion to see the idAtSource value. There is no way to remove an idAtSource once it's been added to an account, and there is no way to add it to another user's account since each user must have a unique value.
