Why am I receiving requests for articles outside of our coverage dates?

Applies to

  • WorldShare Interlibrary Loan
  • Tipasa

Answer

This is due to a user error on the borrowing library's end. The coverage dates are listed in the Holdings column when viewing holding libraries for an OCLC number in WorldShare ILL. It is the borrowing library's responsibility to check this column and ensure they are not adding libraries to the lender string that do not hold the years needed.

Unfortunately, deflection policies cannot deflect requests for items outside your coverage range. For more information on what can be deflected, see Deflections. Even if you have a deflection policy set up to deflect lending requests with knowledge base collections or with License Manager, you will still get ILL requests passed through for items that fall outside your coverage range or within embargo dates because deflection policies cannot deflect requests for items outside your coverage range.

Note: Use the knowledge base coverage check to automatically respond No when a borrower requests an item from your WorldCat knowledge base that falls outside of your defined coverage range or license terms.
