Field name in the tab delimited file has a length of zero error

Symptom

• When uploading items to the Project client you get the error "Field name in the tab delimited file has a length of zero error. This is likely due to a trailing tab at the end of the first record"

Applies to

• CONTENTdm

Resolution

The quickest fix for this is the following : 

1. Open your metadata file in Excel
2. Import the data so it appears correctly in columns
3. Select the column following the last field in your data
4. Delete it

If there is a blank hiding in there it will be automatically deleted when the column is deleted.
