Find an item in a nearby library using WorldCat Find

Discover how to borrow an item from a nearby library using WorldCat Find.

Overview

The Find a copy at a library section allows you to access an item through a nearby library if you have their library card. It displays the three closest libraries that hold the item based on your current location. You can tap your current location to update it.

Each listing for the three closest libraries includes the:

  • Name of the library
  • City and state of the library
  • Directions and distance from your current location link - Tap this link to open the library's location in your device's map application.
  • Borrow link - Tap this link to open the library's catalog.

You can also tap See all libraries to open the All libraries screen and view all libraries that hold this item. The All libraries screen displays the address for each library in addition to the information included for the three closest libraries.

Borrow an item

 

  1. Tap Borrow. You will be redirected to the library's catalog in an in-app browser.
  2. From the library's catalog, you will need to do one of the following in order to borrow the item:
    • Tap the button indicating you want to check the item out ((e.g, Reserver, Request, Request this item, Get it, etc.).
    • Tap the item title and then tap the button indicating you want to check the item out ((e.g, Reserver, Request, Request this item, Get it, etc.).
    • Search for the item using the library catalog's search field, tap the item title, and then tap the button indicating you want to check the item out ((e.g, Reserver, Request, Request this item, Get it, etc.).

       Note: After you tap the button indicating you want to check the item out, you may be prompted to enter your library card information for the library and/or be asked to pay a fee

  3. Enter your information.
  4. Tap Submit. A confirmation dialog appears.
  5. Close the confirmation window.
  6. Tap Done (iOS) or x (Android) to close the in-app browser and return to WorldCat Find.

Filter Find a copy at a library results

You can narrow the Find a copy at a library results to include only public libraries or to a specific edition.

Filter results to public libraries only

  1. Tap Filter.
  2. Enable the Show only public libraries toggle switch.
  3. Tap Apply.

Filter to a specific edition

By default, WorldCat Find displays a list of libraries that hold any edition of the selected item. The Show me libraries that hold filter allows you to specify which edition or type of edition you want to borrow.

  1. Tap Filter.
  2. Under Show me libraries that hold, tap one of the following options.

     Note: The available options depend on the item you're viewing.

    Specific edition filter Description
    Just this edition Limits available libraries to those that hold only the edition you are currently viewing.
    Any eBook edition Limits available libraries to those that hold any eBook edition of the item.
    Any Print Book edition Limits available libraries to those that hold any print book edition of the item. The format for all items returned will be Print Book, and they will have the same title and author as the item you are currently viewing.
    Any edition in any format (default) Returns all available libraries that hold any edition of the item in any format.
  3. Tap Apply.
