Resolution

Intermittent file upload errors in Article Exchange are most commonly caused by local browser, network, or file factors. Follow these steps to isolate the cause:

  1. Rule out browser issues: Log out, close the browser entirely, clear the browser cache, and disable any add-ons or extensions. Log back in using a fresh URL (not a bookmark).
  2. Rule out network issues: Test the upload on a different, non-institutional network or VPN (e.g. a mobile phone hotspot) to determine whether a firewall, proxy, or network policy is interfering.
  3. Rule out file issues: Create a simple test PDF exported from Word with a small file size and no permissions or restrictions and attempt to upload it. Files should be no larger than 120 MB, including high resolution documents.Supported file types include BMP, GIF, JPEG, PDF, PNG, TIF, TIFF, WEBP, ZIP, among others. Confirm the file meets these requirements. (See: Technical requirements).

If the error persists after all three troubleshooting steps, escalate to OCLC Support with:

  • The exact error message or screenshot
  • Browser name and version
  • File type and size being uploaded
  • Whether the issue has been replicated on an alternative network
