Can OCLC correct errors in a record created by the Digital Collection Gateway?

Applies to

  • Digital Collection Gateway
  • WorldCat

Answer

If there is an error in a record created by Digital Collection Gateway, OCLC staff are generally unable to make the correction, as any edits will be overwritten with the institution's next harvest. This includes broken links in the 856 field. These errors should be reported to the cataloging institution so the errors can be corrected in the institution's repository. The cataloging institution's symbol can be found in the 040$a.

DCG records can be identified by the 856 $x stating, "This 856 field was generated using the WorldCat Digital Collection Gateway" as well as 042$a of 'dc'.
