Why am I receiving an error when replacing a record in Connexion?

Symptom

  • When trying to replace a record in Connexion, you receive the error: Replace failed. The WorldCat record has changed since you retrieved your copy. Either lock this record or search for a new copy of the WorldCat record.

Applies to

  • Connexion

Resolution

This error occurs when the WorldCat master record has been updated after you initially retrieved your local working copy. Locking the record prevents older versions of a record from overwriting newer, updated versions in WorldCat. The record will remain locked for up to 14 days. No one, including our automated processes, can replace locked WorldCat records. Once the error above appears, the only way to add your edits to the record is to generate a new copy of the record to edit and then lock it.

  1. Log on to Connexion
  2. Retrieve the record you want to modify and replace
  3. Click Action > Lock WorldCat Record, and then edit the record
  4. Click Action > Replace Record or Replace and Update Holdings
