Connexion client or the OCLC Label Program won't open, and error message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" displays.
Symptom
- Connexion client won't open.
- When starting Connexion client or the OCLC Label Program, you receive message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" (the error wording may vary slightly).
Applies to
- Connexion client
- OCLC Label Program
Resolution
To resolve the problem, please create a new desktop shortcut (see steps below).
The Connexion client reinstallation attempt is being caused by the Microsoft MSI self-heal technology attempting to fix what it perceives as a damaged installation, however, the installation is fine.
How to create a new desktop shortcut:
- If Connexion client is open/running, make sure it is closed.
- On your keyboard, click and hold down the Windows key ⊞ and then press the R key (Windows + R); this brings up the Windows Run box.
- Type C: (include the colon (:)) and press Enter.
- Double-click (if 64-bit) the Program Files (x86) or (if 32-bit), Program Files folder.
- Double-click the OCLC folder.
- Double-click the Connexion folder.
- Double-click the Program folder.
- Scroll down and right-click Connex.exe
- Choose SendTo > Desktop (create shortcut). If you don't see the .exe extension, look in the 'Type' column for 'Application'.
- Double-click the new shortcut. The client should start normally.
- Delete the original desktop shortcut
- Rename the new one to look like the one you just deleted.
If you move the newly created icon from the user’s desktop to C:\Users\Public\Desktop, Connexion client will be available to anyone that signs into Windows.
