OCLC Entities search and insert macro

Discover how to use the OCLC Entities search and insert macro to insert WorldCat Entity identifiers into bibliographic fields in Connexion client.

Overview

The Search and Insert macro conducts a search on a valid, uncontrolled field in a bibliographic record. The field text is used to search and display a list of possible matching WorldCat Entities that can be inserted into the bibliographic field. The system uses the field tag to determine the type of entity results to display (e.g., a 100 field will display Person, Agent, Family, and Fictional Entity results).

Before using the Search and Insert macro, the OCLC Entities toolkit must be downloaded and installed. For download links and instructions, see Toolkit downloads. You must accept the OCLC software download Terms and Conditions before downloading.

The following fields are considered valid if they are uncontrolled:

Tag, indicator, subfield Entity Type
100, 600 *7 ǂ2 fast, 700 Person, Agent, Family, Fictional entity
110, 610 *7 ǂ2 fast, 710 Organization
647 *7 ǂ2 fast Event
651 *7 ǂ2 fast Place
758 Work

Note: In order for the macro to run correctly, do not edit the macro code.
