Label

Find out how to access and use the Label window in Connexion client.

Purpose of the Label window

When you open this window, you can edit a label directly and print for a single record.

  • View a label for the displayed record as specified for your holding library or for other holding libraries listed in field 049.
  • Edit the label.
  • Specify other parameters for printing the label, including mirroring edits on pocket labels, setting the number of copies to print, and specifying print constants.
  • Print the displayed label.

Access the Label window

  1. With a bibliographic record displayed, click View > Label, click Label button, or press <F10>.
    • The Label window opens for the label type specified in Tools > Options > Printing: SL4 (default), SL6, SLB, or SP1. The title of the Label window shows the format.
    • Data from the record appears in the text boxes.
  2. Check or edit the data and/or specify other parameters for printing. See details in the table below.
  3. If your library has multiple OCLC institution symbols, select the appropriate symbol in the Holding Library Code list.
  4. Click Print.

Label window: Features and buttons

Feature How to use
Spine text field
  • View the call number and automatic stamp (if any) for the first holding library in field 049 of the record.
  • Edit the call number and input stamp if needed for the spine label.
Pocket 1 and Pocket 2 areas
 

 Note:

  • SLB has only Pocket 1
  • SP1 has neither Pocket 1 or Pocket 2
Call Number text field(s)
  • Same as for the Spine text box.
  • Edit if needed for the pocket label(s). See Mirror Edits check box description to make the same edits to Pocket 2 automatically.
Author and Title text field(s)
  • View text extracted for the classification specified for the first holding library in field 049 of the record.
  • Edit if needed for the pocket label(s). See Mirror Edits check box description to make the same edits to Pocket 2 automatically.
Other label features
Holding Library Code list
  • View the first holding library specified in field 049 of the record.
  • Use the list to select other holding libraries listed in field 049 and view labels specified for each (if any) in your cataloging profile.
Copies of each box Enter a number from 1 to 999 to specify the number of copies of each label to print.

Default: 1 copy
Print Constant 1 box Enter text to print on all labels. Use letters, numbers, and punctuation marks (e.g., c. or v. or Part or Vol.).
Numbers box Enter numbers to appear on labels with Print Constant 1. Use only numbers, commas, hyphens, and quotation marks. You can use:
  • Single numbers or years separated by commas (e.g., 1,2,5,10 or 1980, 1985, 1990)
  • Ranges of numbers or years (e.g., 1-10 or 1990-1995)
  • Specific ranges (e.g., 1-3 or 1990-95)
  • Combinations of the options listed above (e.g., 1, 2-3, 4-6, or 1980, 1981-1982, 1983-1985)
Print Constant 2 field Enter additional text to print on labels, as described above for Print Constant 1 box.
Numbers field Enter numbers to appear on labels with Print Constant 2, as described above for the Numbers box for Print Constant 1.
Mirror Edits check box
  • Select to have edits you make to Pocket 1 also made for Pocket 2 automatically.
  • Clear to edit Pocket 1 and Pocket 2 independently.
  • Check box is available only if text in Pockets 1 and 2 is exactly the same.

Default: Check box is deselected. Edit Pockets 1 and 2 independently.

Does not appear if your label format is SLB, which has only one pocket label, or SP1, which has no pocket labels.

 

Button name Click the button to...
ALA Entry Open the ALA Character Selection window to enter diacritics and special characters in the text of a label:
  1. Place the insertion point where you want to insert a character. You can insert ALA characters in text for spine label, pocket label, or print constants.
  2. Click ALA Entry.
  3. In the ALA Character Selection window, select a character to insert.
  4. Click Insert or Insert and Close.
Print Print the label set.
 

 Note: If you selected the Prompt for Options check box under Tools > Options > Printing for printing labels on Sheet stock, the Column and Row Options window opens so that you can select the column and row to start printing.

Close Close the Label window. Any changes to the label from the original label display are discarded. You must print labels in hard copy or to an electronic file (select  in Tools > Options > Printing tab) to keep your changes.
