What is the function of the previous shelving location in Item Details?

Previous or Former shelving location comes from the LHR 852 $d field and is for information purposes only. The field is not automatically filled and does not control system behavior in WorldShare Circulation. Item details allows users to select from a list of shelving locations at the item’s current holding location. Record Manager will allow a free text entry for the $d, but it will cause a validation error if it does not match a previous shelving location.
