How do I delete a patron type?

Answer

You can delete patron types in OCLC Service Configuration. Please be aware that it can take up to thirty minutes for these changes to appear once made.

Before deleting a patron type, confirm that it is fully removed from your settings and that all patron accounts associated with that patron type are deleted. This ensures that removing the patron type doesn't affect any of your current patrons. 

Follow the steps below, noting that it's possible your patron type is not present in the settings of step 3. 

  1. If you have any notifications configured for only the patron type being deleted, remove them to avoid confusion going forward. 
  2. Retrieve the Patron Information Detail Report from WorldShare Analytics and sort by "Patron Borrower Category" to ensure you do not have any current patrons attached to the Patron Type you wish to delete. 
  3.  Remove or change the lines included in the Loan Policy Map, Hold Limits Matrix, Loan Limits Matrix, Hold Request Policy Map, Hold Fulfillment Policy Map, and Hold Pickup Locations Map that include the patron type policy you wish to delete. 

Once you've followed the above steps, use the instructions below to delete the patron type: 

  1. Log in to the OCLC Service Configuration > WMS Institution > Institution Borrower Categories.
  2. Next to the patron type you would like to delete, click Delete.
  3. Click Save.
