Edit patron barcodes
Overview
The release barcode function allows you to manage barcode updates for patron records. You can change and reassign barcodes in order to correct issues such as duplicate file entries or barcode mismatch.
All actions are to be done in the WorldShare Admin module.
This feature is only available to users with the roles:
- Circulation Administrator
- User Administrator
- User Manager
See WorldShare Admin for more information on Circulation roles.
Change a barcode
- In the WorldShare Admin module, retrieve a patron record.
- In the user account, on the Basic User Data accordion, click Edit.
- In the Circulation section, enter the new barcode.
- Click Save.
- A message appears confirming that the user was successfully updated.
The former barcode will now appear in the WMS diagnostics section as an additional barcode. The former barcode is inactive, but is still associated with the user account.
If you attempt to add a previously-assigned barcode to a patron record without first releasing the barcode from the initial patron record, an error message is displayed indicating a duplicate barcode record exists.
Release a barcode
Releasing a barcode allows previously assigned, inactive barcodes to be reused.
- In the WorldShare Admin module, retrieve a patron record.
- In the user account, click the WMS diagnostics accordion.
- In the row of the barcode you want to release, click Release.
The released barcode will no longer display in the WMS diagnostics section and is available for use.
Set a barcode as primary
Use the Set as primary button to restore one of the previous barcodes from within the WorldShare Admin interface. This action will set the barcode as the primary visible barcode in the patron profile. All other additional barcodes remain active barcodes for the patron in Circulation.
- In the WorldShare Admin module, retrieve a patron record.
- In the user account, click the WMS diagnostics accordion.
- In the row of the desired barcode, select Set as primary.
The barcode will be set as the primary barcode for the user account.
