Manage custom messages

Learn how to add custom messages to your Next-Generation Notification templates.

Manage custom messages

Click on the desired Custom message type. Options include:

  • Patron type messages
  • Pickup location messages

Click on the Add new button to add a new custom message.

To edit a Custom Message, click the Edit button.

To delete a Custom Message, click the Delete button. A confirmation dialog appears. Click Delete to delete the message.

Patron type messages

When institutions add the Patron type message to a notification template, the system will dynamically identify and insert the applicable custom message(s) based on the patron's type.

To add a Patron type message to a notification template, enter ${Patron Type Message into a text block. Once the template is assigned to the Notification section of the Patron Type Policy, the template will include the patron type message when the notification is sent to that patron type. If there are multiple Patron type messages assigned to a particular patron type, each message will be included in the notification.

Configure custom messages per patron type:

  1. Click Add new patron type message.
  2. Enter the following settings:
    Setting Description
    Name

    Enter a name for the custom message.

    • The Name must be unique per institution
    Patron types

    Enter the desired Patron types as configured by the institution. See Institution Borrower Categories for more information. 

    • Must select at least 1 patron type.
    • The same patron type may be assigned to multiple messages.
    Message

    Enter the message to be displayed to the patron type. 

    • Limit of 1,000 characters.
    • Use the formatting tools to format the message as desired. 
  3. Click Save.

Pickup location messages

Pickup location messages enable you to add repeatable blocks to hold notifications based on item pickup location. The pickup location message will be included in a hold notification if you have configured the pickup location message template and included the Hold Pickup Location field label in the template. Refer to Add blocks of repeatable data to the Template for more information.

Configure custom messages per patron type:

  1. Click Add new patron type message.
  2. Enter the following settings:
    Setting Description
    Name

    Enter a name for the custom message.

    • The Name must be unique per institution
    Pickup location

    Select the pickup location.

    Message

    Enter the message to be displayed on the hold notification

    • Limit of 1,000 characters.
    • Use the formatting tools to format the message as desired. 
  3. Click Save.

Once you have configured the pickup location message, add the Hold Pickup Location field to a Hold template. Once the hold template has been assigned to a Hold Policy, the pickup location messages will be included in the hold notification.
