I am unable to edit a publication pattern in Receive Issues

Symptom

  • You are unable to change the publication pattern of a serial in Acquisitions on the Receive Issues screen. When you attempt to edit the pattern, you see the message: ''The system is not automatically generating new issues due to the conflict between publication pattern and the latest issue entered."

Applies to

  • WorldShare Acquisitions

Resolution

The publication pattern cannot be edited if the set frequency doesn't match the most recent issue entered. To correct it, you can add a new "dummy" issue that does match the incorrect pattern. This makes it editable. Once you've completed your edits, delete the "dummy" issue you created. This must be done quickly, so the "dummy" issue never gets mistakenly received by another WMS library.

  1. Add a "dummy" issue to be released in the future. This issue must match the publication pattern currently set
    • Recommended: Add a note to say "do not use" or something to that effect, in case another library sees the issue
  2. The publication pattern should now be editable. Click the pencil icon to edit and change the pattern to the correct frequency
  3. Save changes
  4. Delete your "dummy" issue

After this, the publication pattern should be correct, matching that of the last real issue, and the prediction pattern should be correct as well. Confirm this by clicking the pencil icon next to the publication pattern, so you can review the next predicted issues.

If you have any trouble along the way, delete the "dummy" issue you created and contact OCLC Support. Do not leave dummy issues in the system. Otherwise, a library could inadvertently receive it, making it unable to be removed.
