IMS Ref Description

Buttons must be at least 44px diameter (towards WCAG 2.0 AA).

There is an option to "Use Small Buttons" to reduce the size of the buttons if the user has a preference and no problem with smaller buttons on this device. This option can be found in the Display tab of the OLIB Web options page.

The shortcut / accelerator keys currently used in OLIB Web rely on invalid html attributes which can affect screen readers.

To achieve this the shortcut keys had to be changed. Mostly the modifier key has been switched from Control to Alt. Using Alt+s will pop-up a list of the shortcut keys active for that page.

The actions processing in OLIB Web requires reworking to avoid usage of invalid html attributes which can affect screen readers.

The selections process in OLIB Web was reworked to avoid usage of the invalid html attributes which can affect screen readers.

The opportunity was also used to facilitate keyboard capabilities for these checkboxes.

Improvements to accessibility in Folio:

  • The colour contrast has been increased for the search inputs to comply with WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines;
  • Duplication of ID attribute values was corrected;
  • Alt text was added to some images. Some of these (for example the welcome page image) will require manual configuration;
  • The page language is determined by a new setting: html_lang. If this setting is not present, "en" will be used;
    • This setting advises screen readers which pronunciation rules to use for the text on the page
  • The browser title changes with the page context (e.g. search results, account information, details page, ..)

There remain further changes to make to improve accessibility. These will follow with further updates in the future.
