Within GreenGlass, print book/eBook overlap data is designed to help libraries see and understand the extent to which they own both print and electronic editions of the same title. This information can inform library decisions about which print books should be retained and which may be good candidates for withdrawal.
Additionally, the list can be used to identify circumstances where specific eBooks have been acquired from multiple providers or where eBook URLs are no longer active.
Note: You can choose to analyze the print book/eBook overlap for eBooks that are owned in perpetuity and not for those that are subscription-based.
To determine an eBook/print book match, Greenglass looks to one or more of the following evidence:
Note: eBook and print book matching is done at the any edition level and not the same edition level.
The Collection Visualization feature shows the number and percentage of related ebooks by all twelve collection distributions. Refer to Visualization for more information.
In the GreenGlass Query Builder, choose whether or not to include print books that have a related eBook. A reason for including print books that have a related eBook may include analyzing print books that have zero recorded uses and an electronic eBook which may indicate the print book is a candidate for withdrawl.
In the item lists, the related eBook is presented immediately below the print counterpart. The details are drawn directly from the library's eBook record. To the extent possible, GreenGlass construes a platform or provider name from the 856 URI.
There may be multiple eBook editions for one title. A new tally (WHICH CAN BE SEEN HERE) is included in the item details pain and is available as a column in lists exported from GreenGlass. This tally shows how many eBook editions have been identified. If there are none, this integer will be zero.
All eBook records that are associated with the exported list of print items are delivered in the second tab of the excel file. Each eBook record includes several data elements, including:
The data elements are displayed side by side with corresponding information about the related print book. The print book record includes the print location code, call number, and various record numbers.
