PLR survey installation guide

Learn how to install and operate the test customised Amlib PLRSurvey.exe application.

Introduction

The following details provide information on how to install and operate the ‘test’ customised Amlib PLRSurvey.exe application. During operation the PLRSurvey.exe application will match the PLR- supplied source file against the Library database and identify all matches.

The results will be output to a file within the Amlib folder. The file can be forwarded directly to:

Install PLR Survey application

Install the Amlib PLR Survey Application

IMPORTANT: Please ensure that you have full read/write access to the \Amlib folder on your server (for example: C:\Amlib) or PC (if the Amlib client is installed locally) and that you are logged in with Administrative Privileges.

  1. The Amlib PLR Survey zip file is available on the OCLC Support website, under Amlib > Download and Software Updates > Utilities.
  2. Download the InstallPLRSurvey54.zip and save it on your Amlib server
  3. Double-click the InstallPLRSurvey54.zip and unpack the contents
  4. The following files should be copied into the Amlib folder on your server (or PC, if installed locally):
    • PLRSurvey.exe
    • PLRSurvey.ICO
    • PLRSurvey.ini
  5. In addition, the following file supplied by PLR should also be copied into your Amlib folder:
    • PLRAutomatedSurvey1112.txt

WARNING: Restricted Use of Amlib 

  • The PLR Survey matching program will take approximately 4 to 6 hours to run (times will vary depending on the number of catalogue records on your system)
  • The server/PC designated to run the PLR Survey matching application must not be logged onto Amlib during this time
  • Whilst other PC users may be logged onto Amlib when the PLR application is running – the Catalogue and Authorities modules should remain logged off

Running the Survey

  1. On your PC, go to Start/Run – the Run command prompt will display:
  2. Type in the filepath to the PLRSurvey.exe, which has just been saved into the Amlib folder – for example: C:\amlib\PLRSurvey.exe and click the OK button

    Please Note: If you are unable to locate the PLR Survey via the Run box you may need to locate the application by opening Windows Explorer and check whether the PLRsurvey.exe program is located in the Amlib client folder (normally c:\amlib). If you are still unable to locate the program please contact Amlib Support for assistance.
  3. The PLR Survey screen will display:
  4. Change the Library Number to the your assigned PLR number (contact PLR for further information)
  5. In the Amlib Login section:
    • Type in your User Name – for example: STAFF
    • Type in your Password – for example: AMLIB
    • Select the database to use – the default is the Live Database
  6. Click on Login button – if login is successful, the button will grey out:
  7. Click the Start Survey button – which will then grey out:
  8. The Survey will start to run – the survey progress can be monitored by checking the Current Stage field and observing the record numbers increasing in number
  9. The output file is created in the C:\Amlib folder and will be called: PLR_####_****.txt (The #### will be replaced with the data in the Program Year field and the **** will be replaced with data from the Library Number field
  10. When the PLR Survey is complete, the word Finished will display in the Survey Progress section
  11. To exit the PLR Survey application, click the Exit button

Send Output File to PLR

The resultant output file (PLR_####_****.txt) which can be located in the Amlib folder on your server/PC needs to emailed to PLR.
