Software installation instructions

Find instructions on how to download OCLC software and install it on workstations in your library.

1. Overview

This document explains how to download OCLC software and how to install it on workstations in your library.

What type of file is used for downloaded software?

You download each program separately.

Software is provided as a self-extracting compressed file (file name extension .exe).

You do not need special software to extract (uncompress) this file.

After extracting the compressed files, you can:

  • Install on 1 workstation – Install from the folder to which you download the software. After extracting, double-click setup.exe to start installation.
    Or
  • Install on several workstations – Copy the downloaded software to your LAN, and then access the setup.exe file on your LAN from each workstation to install the software on the local workstation.

More information

For more information on installing and configuring the application, please see the Getting Started document for the OCLC application you are installing:

2. Prepare to download software

On your workstation's hard disk, create a temporary folder to contain the downloaded file(s).

Example: Under the c:\temp or c:\windows\temp folder, create a subfolder named \oclcsw.

If you plan to download several programs, create a separate subfolder for each. This prevents your overwriting files from the program downloaded first when you extract files from additional programs.

Example: Under the c:\temp or c:\windows\temp folder, create a subfolder named for each program you plan to download. You might create the following: \catme and \illme and \cjk and \label and \dewey.
