New features and enhancements

Access a streamlined Report a Broken Link form

This release includes the following fixes to the “report a broken link” form and its associated email notification based on your feedback:

  • A streamlined form removing the "Send me the correct link to the resource if it's available" checkbox dependency.
  • The sender's information is included in the body of the email so you can respond quickly.

When a patron submits the form, WorldCat Discovery sends separate email notifications to the email address that the patron entered on the form as well as to the email address that you have configured for your library in OCLC Service Configuration > WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > ILS Support and Maintenance > User Support > Report a Broken Link Form.

The body of the email notification includes all data collected in the “report a broken link” form (Name / Email / Message) so your staff can respond quickly.

As part of OCLC’s work to standardize email notifications, messages generated by the form now come from do-not-reply@e.worldcat.org <notices@e.worldcat.orginstead of no-reply@e.worldcat.org.

Bug fixes

Users can now place a hold on a journal volume held in print when viewing the item details of an article within it

When viewing the item details of an article from a journal that your library holds in print, users can now successfully place a hold on the volume that contains it. Previously the message ‘Ineligible for place hold. No pick up locations available’ was displayed.

Government and educational open access links now honor MARC 856 $7 values

If a record contains MARC 856 $7 with a value of 1, the access status of this networked electronic resource is “Restricted access.” With this release, WorldCat Discovery now honors the $7 value of 1 in records for government and educational documents.

If your library has configured the display of “Links from WorldCat record 856 and 956 to open access content / free content” for “Government and Educational documents” in OCLC Service Configuration > WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > Full Text and Open Access Links > WorldCat Discovery Search Results and Detailed Views > Primary Links, WorldCat Discovery no longer considers such records open access if they contain MARC 856 $7 with a value of 1. It no longer displays their MARC 856 $u URLs as primary links on search results or item details.

These links will only display as Other Links on the item details page if your library has selected the configuration option to display “Links from the WorldCat record 856 to non-open access content / non-free content.”

Include Request ID with problem reports

When reporting an issue with WorldCat Discovery, it is extremely helpful to include the Request ID. The Request ID is found at the bottom of the screen on which the issue occurred. Including this information allows us to directly trace what happened on the request we are troubleshooting.
