How did my work get into WorldCat?

Answer

OCLC member libraries acquire works from a variety of sources. When a member library acquires your work and then catalogs and uploads the record, they are contributing to the WorldCat database and indicating that they own a copy.

Your work will appear in WorldCat after all the following steps are completed:

  1. An OCLC member library purchases your published work.
  2. The library staff catalog your work in their local database, creating a record.
  3. The library uploads the record for your work to WorldCat, after which it becomes visible on WorldCat.org.

Note: On WorldCat.org, the list of libraries that own your work includes only those libraries that maintain appropriate OCLC subscriptions. For questions regarding the acquisition of your item, please address the OCLC member library that owns the item.
